100 Miles Per Gallon Car
The Automotive X PRIZE is spending millions of dollars for a 100-mpg car, but it will take more than high mileage to claim it.
The X PRIZE wants to bring some big changes in car industry that has been stagnant for 30 years as far as gas mileage is concerned. The competition will not only help the team and environment, it can also benefit the consumers and help them save money at the gas stations.
In 2009 carmakers from around the world will go head-to-head in a race to prove they can deliver a 100-mpg car. Big names and hopeful hacks alike will have to show that their vehicles are not only economical and green, but economically realistic and practical.
The first $10 million X PRIZE was offered in 2004 to Mojave Aerospace Ventures, which is an outfit led by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
