There has been a very dramatic find about diabetes recently. Studies have shown that a surgical procedure can cure some diabetes patients in a remarkably short time. That study has proven the strongest evidence so far that the obesity surgery can cure diabetes.

It turns out that to reduce the size of stomach, patients who went for surgery were five times more likely to see their diabetes cured over the next few years than the patients didn’t have the obesity surgery but went under standard and normal diabetic care. Also, most of the successful surgery patients were able to stop taking diabetes drugs and achieve normal blood tests.

The type of surgery they had are called the stomach band surgery, which is a surgical procedure that is very common in Australia. In the United States however, surgeries like gastric bypass surgery, or stomach stapling are more common. In the United States, surgeons perform more than 100,000 obesity surgeries each year.

Gastric bypass is considered even more effective against diabetes, achieving remission in a matter of days or a month. Traditionally diabetes are considered to be a chronic, progressive disease. But these operations really do represent a realistic hope for curing most patients.
